new brunch spot in Columbia...not where you think

So, yes: Ruby Tuesday's now has Sunday brunch, and it's really good. I usually try to frequent local spots and not chains, but my parents have an unfettered affection for the RT and love the bartenders there who know them and have their drinks waiting when they walk in....far be it for me, a poor social worker to turn down a free meal, so I accompany my parents pretty often for a mid-week dinner at the bar.

On one of my most recent visits there, we were given coupons for BOGO Sunday brunch, which just started the end of August. We resisted for a bit, but finally gave it a try and it was well worth it!

Any meal ordered from the Brunch menu includes 4 "courses": freshly made, warm biscuits (all you can eat...they are awesome), a yogurt/fruit/granola parfait (equally yummy), then your main course, and warm cookies to end. Way too much food for one person to eat, so then you have a late afternoon leftover lunch for later :).

I ordered the Avocado and Bacon Quesadilla, which also includes scrambled eggs and cheese, served with a side of sour cream and salsa. My hubs ordered the Eggs Benedict Trio, which includes one each mini steak, chicken, and crab cake Benedicts. We both enjoyed our main dishes, but my favorite part is the biscuits and yogurt parfait. (Of course, I got mine with no fruit b/c I do not like fruit in weird forms*).

Michelle, the bartender extraordinaire, who is coincidentally my parents' favorite bartender when they dine at night, was our server and as always, super-pleasant and accommodating.

I recommend the RT Sunday brunch--it's affordable and tasty, and right now you can get a BOGO coupon...just go to the bar and ask for one. Tell them Becca sent you!

And the Mimosa's made from Mumm champagne aren't bad either!

*Fruit in weird form= dried fruit, jelly/jam, hot fruit, fruit salad, basically fruit in any form other than it's naturally occuring state...I'm weird, I know.

Bene's and Bloodys at Liberty

A great friend from out of town stayed with my husband and me after the Carolina game last night, and after a USC win we decided to continue celebrating today by brunching at Liberty in the Vista.

"Bene's and Bloodys?," he asked us as I threw my hair back in the proverbial Sunday-no-shower-ponytail. It took us a minute to figure out what a Bene was, (Eggs Benedict), but Bloodys, I knew...

Liberty has amazing Bloody Mary's--they use Zing Zang mix, which is the best I have ever tasted, they rim the glass in Old Bay, and garnish with a lime, lemon, celery stalk, 2 large green olives, and the coup de gras, a boiled shrimp. (I did choose to get mine sans shrimp though, as I don't particularly like shrimp, especially not in the morning).


The Liberty brunch menu is diverse and includes classics like French Toast, pancakes, and assorted omelets, as well as an amazing Breakfast Burrito, which is what I ordered. They also start you out with a basket of piping-hot mini-blueberry muffins, probably my husband's favorite part of the meal.

The boys both had Classic Eggs Benedict, which they enjoyed. My Breakfast Burrito was huge, and very tasty. Top the great food and drinks off with an amazing Fall breeze enjoyed on the back porch, and it was a blissful Sunday brunch. And you'll never have an easier time parking in the Vista than on a Sunday morning!
